What made this journalist, who owns 1,800 phones, travel to Korea to get a Samsung phone?
Samsung shared a fascinating story about a Japanese IT journalist named Yasuhiro Yamane, who has a huge collection of over 1,800 phones. He recently traveled to South Korea to get his hands on a special Galaxy phone. Many people in this field love technology, and even if they aren't collectors, they often have lots of old devices around.
At Sam Mobile, we probably have hundreds of old phones that are just sitting unused somewhere.
For Yamane, collecting phones is more than a hobby.
He calls himself a "mobile phone researcher" and has been writing about smartphones and telecom for over 20 years.
It was the Galaxy Z Tri Fold that made him travel from Hong Kong to South Korea.
Samsung launched the phone in its home country on December 12, and it costs about $2,500.
Yamane's first Samsung phone was the SGH-E400 flip phone from 2003.
Just over two decades later, Samsung released a tri-fold phone that would have seemed like something out of a dream back then.
He wanted to try the phone before anyone else, so he made the trip to South Korea where the Galaxy Z Tri Fold was first available.
It was probably a good move because the phone is also the cheapest option there.
Yamane liked the Galaxy Z Tri Fold a lot.
He said the 10-inch display is perfect for doing multiple things at once. He thinks it’s a great choice for creators and business users who need to handle several tasks.
Since the phone is only available in limited numbers, getting one might be hard for a lot of people.
